Aktobe Ferroalloys Plant

The plant produces high, medium and low-carbon ferrochrome, ferrosilicon and metal concentrate. Aktobe Ferroalloys Plant is the leading enterprise of Kazakhstan’s ferrous metallurgy sector. The Plant’s launch was marked by the first production of ferroalloys in the “Komsomolka” furnace in 1943.

The Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant is a modern and steadily growing enterprise, with an annual production capacity exceeding 700,000 tons of ferroalloys.

  • The plant consists of three smelting shops, a slag processing shop, and various auxiliary facilities. It produces high-carbon, medium-carbon, and low-carbon ferrochrome, ferrosilicon, and metal concentrate.
  • Thanks to its active technological advancements, the Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant makes a significant contribution to both the regional and national economy. Currently, its products are exported to European countries, Japan, and the USA.
  • The most recent addition to the plant is Smelting Shop No. 4, which was launched in 2014. This shop utilizes an innovative direct current (DC) smelting technology, a unique solution not only for Kazakhstan but also for the global ferroalloy industry. It is equipped with the world's most powerful 72 MW DC furnaces for high-carbon ferrochrome production, and 60% of the plant’s output is produced here. Today, the DC furnaces operate steadily at 75 MW, with tests underway to increase the capacity to 80 MW.
  • The modernization of the Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant continued in 2021 with the comprehensive reconstruction of two smelting shops—Shop No. 1 and Shop No. 2, which have been in operation since the mid-20th century. Over this period, four furnaces were completely updated, and reconstruction of the remaining ones will continue until 2032.
  • In pursuit of global best practices, the plant has built new gas cleaning systems for two of its smelting shops between 2021 and 2024. This is part of a total equipment overhaul and a shift toward full automation, incorporating the latest technologies to tackle critical environmental challenges. As a result of these upgrades, the plant’s environmental footprint has been reduced by 30%. The project was supported by “TNC “Kazchrome” JSC with an investment exceeding 12 billion tenge.
  • The Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant places great emphasis on safety and environmental protection. Employees are provided with preventive medical meals and milk, personal protective equipment, and are actively involved in social and health-related initiatives, including regular medical check-ups.
